Hi im in the market for a new car i just have gotten a raise where i work to $150,000 a year would i be able to afford a new bmw 3 series and do you like the new 3 series and what are your opinions them

Q: what car is as powerful as a 3 series bmw?
im looking for a cheaper car that has the same or a similar engine as the 3 series does. im looking for one that has a comparable engine to a bmw 328xi. the bmw has a 3.0 liter i6 engine and it has about 230hp. what car that is cheaper than the bmw but has similar or more power.

A: 230hp isn’t much nowadays.. A lot of cars have at least that much power, from the V6 Mustang (mentioned above), any V6 Accord, Camry, etc. Mazdaspeed 3 has a lot of power, not quite on the same level of luxury as BMW obviously. Lightly used Nissan 350Z might be nice. I think Motor Trend magazine just came out with a new car buyer’s guide, check it out at any bookstore.

Q: Which would be cheaper to insure: a 3 series BMW or an Acura CL?
I’m looking to purchase a used car – I think I want either a 3 series BMW (probably a 318 or 325) or an Acura CL.

Whatever I get will most likely be a ‘97 or ‘98 and the cars I’ve found have 80,000-100,000 miles on them.

I won’t get anything that’s not in very good condition.

Which of the two would cost me less to insure?

And are BMWs really that expensive to repair? What about the Acura?

Is there anything you could tell me about either car that might influence my decision (good or bad)?

By the way be careful with the BMW. I have heard they have reliability problems.

Q: bmw idling problems on my 1999 3 series?
my 1999 3 series bmw is idling unevenly its revs are going down as far as 400 rpm while im slowing to a stop e.g. comming up to a junction what could be causing this problem ?

A: Dear,

Please check the following.

1.Clean the air filter.
2.The ICV( Idle Control Valve) may be stuck..tap it with screw driver handle.
3.Is the idling comes after you switch on aircon or normal itself.
4.Check for any crack in the rubber boot which connects the air filter element and MAF (Mass Air Flow ) sensor.

Q: What’s the best year for a used 3-series BMW?
I had a mechanic tell me that 2000-2002 3-series BMWs have engine problems (there supposedly was some recall), but MSN Autos says only the 2003 has had problems (occasional ignition coil failures). Does that mean only 2004+ models are worth buying?

A: your mechanic friend may have been referring to the M3 3-series. The early M3 (2001-2003?) motors had bearing issues and required major recall work. The late 2003-2004/5? 3-series had faulty ignition coils, but they were also recalled. All of the above issues have recalls, which means you can get them fixed at no cost to you at the dealer. Most owners would have gotten a recall letter and had the work done already.

In general, the straight six motors (M52TU, M54) between 1999-2005 are very reliable and won many engines of the year awards, along with it’s M counter part, the S54 motor.

All BMW’s have their share of issues, but the 3-series between 2001-2005 are among the most reliable. However, if you are buying a used car, I recommend a pre-purchase inspection and a review of any maintenance records you can find.

Q: What is the best aftermarket stereo to put in a 02 BMW 3 series?
Was wondering about possible aftermarket stereos to install in an 02 BMW 325 that just doesn’t look totally out of place with the rest of the car something that flows with the layout of the dash and all. Thanks
not needing something with gps or dvd playback something basic simple but could play iphone or ipod and just goes the the layout. Something inexpensive.

A: The best cd players that have amazing sound quality and are the only ones Id buy are the following in order from favorite to least:

JVC
Pioneer
Eclipse
Kenwood
Alpine

JVC is my favorite because the options it has, and trust me, it sounds incredible!

Oh btw dont buy sony car audio…its tempting I know, sony is a good brand, but their car audio is junk, take my advise. Good luck!

Q: How much would it cost to get a flat black or a metallic black paint job on a used 3 series BMW?
Are there any colors that would be cheaper?

A: Flat black would be astronomically expensive, think in the range of $8,000-$11,000, which is what my uncle paid to get his old hot rod painted flat black. Mercedes offers that color for their special edition Brabus Black, and it’s an $8000 optional extra. It’s very hard to maintain, and even harder to paint it well. As for metallic black, it can be done for $3000-$5000. that would include all door jambs, inside the trunk and hood, and they should do a good, detailed job, (under the door handles, under any hood emblems…)
Do research on any place you are considering letting paint your car. Think of it as an investment, you don’t want just any loser in control of your car’s future resale value.

Q: How do I make my BMW 3 Series 2010 stereo louder?
I upgraded the speakers when i bought it but it seems to have a limiter on it which means it doesn’t seem to go as loud as previous car stereos. I have the Idrive system. All BMW standard stereo parts.

A: The only way to have your stereo “louder” yet retain the factory features and look is to have it professionally upgraded.

Q: Know a salvage yard with BMW 3 series?
I’m looking for a salvage yard to get the Xenon headlamp assemblies, hardware and wiring from a 99-01 BMW 3 Series to convert my ‘00 328ci halogen lights. Somewhere close to southwest Virginia would be ideal.

Q: how do you jump start a 2006 bmw 3 series with the battery in the trunk?
my friend ask me how to jump start his bmw but i didnt know what to say cause he is telling me that its in the trunk and its terminal positive and negative are covered in plastic???? what should i tell him

A: They don’t want that car jumped so tell him to take out the battery and get a new one.

Q: is it worth buying a BMW 3 series or a Audi S5?
I have no idea what to get. The Audi looks amazing especially the interoir , but the specs kinda suck, the 3 series looks really ugly to me, but has better specs. and which one would be cheaper to maintain?

A: Neither will be cheap to maintain; the parts are expensive and so is the labor to work on both. That said, BMW generally has a better reputation as far as needing repairs. From what I’ve read, Audis seem to need a lot of them.

Test drive both and see which one you like better, as that’s more important. Whatever you get should last a long time provided it gets all the regular maintenance, and it isn’t hot-rodded all over the place.
