Q: 2006 CPO BMW or New 328??
Hey All,
I have been(still) considering a 2006 beemer 325i for some time – till I looked up the invoice price of a new 328. i was shocked. Its only 2k more than the CPO model. So i guess the “pricier ones” are normally 330s with premium, navi and CWP.The only option i need is leather/seats and i have driven(test) beemers with just that part of the CWP. Dont think it can be more than 1-2k. Am i rite? Any ppl with similar config(325/328 with heated seats) – how much did it cost you?

Shud i go for a new 328 or CPO 2006 325? Also if new, which ones better – 08 or 07(other than the 4 year warranty part)?
I am confused and need some advice .

Appreciate all the help.
Thanks !

A: When you buy a used car, you are taking a chance on getting a bad car. Certification means that the dealership (NOT the manufacturer) has gone over this car and it passes all their inspections. They do not rebuild the car, they just inspect it. The used car manager gets paid a portion of the profit, so his incentive is to minimize the reconditioning cost (cut corners). Also, you have to wonder why someone traded the car in? Was it giving them trouble? Did they damage the car and then trade it in? Maybe they couldn’t afford the car and since it was being repo’d, they beat the car to death?

For $1-2K, it makes no sense to get a CPO car. Just make sure your comparison is correct. I doubt you can get a BMW 328i at invoice. If so, you are an incredible negotiator, because you just took all the profit from the dealer and the salesman gets paid a “mini” for all his work. Expect to pay about $1,000 over invoice at the very best. Also make sure the invoice cost you are using includes local advertising fees. The dealer has to pay this and they will pass the cost on to you – its on the invoice.

Finally, consider the options you want vs need. Real leather seats are nice, but BMW leatherette is very high quality and most people never know they have synthetic materials. You can also get just heated seats vs the entire CWP. I’m not a work now, but from memory, heated seats are about 500-600. A used car also has less maintenance time from BMW and it may not have a “Lemon Law” policy.

Good luck and enjoy your new BMW!

Q: i have a tail light out in bmw 328. the bulb is new and the fuses are fine what else could be the problem?

A: The problem is the electrical contact where the wire harness connects to the bulb carrier( the big plastic part that holds all the bulbs.) it you remove the carrier and unplug it look at the connector on the wire harness you will see it is melted. This is a common problem on the E46 3 series BMWs. There is a special tool needed to remove the wire terminals from the housing so you will have to take it to a shop to have it repaired.

Q: Which car should I get? BMW 328 , Prius, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord? Or should I wait for Honda’s new diesel?
I’ve been wanting to lease/buy a 3series.
But after reading “Rich dad Poor dad”, I kind of want to save my money. I also did some research on Accord and they are coming out with a diesel Accord in 2009, but that’s too long of a wait.
That’s why I was thinking about leasing.

A: get the accord 5 speed. honda has the best reliability, if not tied with toyota at a cheaper price.
the prius transmission is a new kind called cvt. they dont have all the bugs worked out and they cost a lot to fix. like more than 5 grand the dealer will soak you for.
the bmws have a reputations for being no more reliable than the average american slop-mobile.
the manual transmission accord is least likely to give you any problems, and ive been in them and they are HUGE and COMFY.
toyota has been having a rough time in the last few years with quality too. they cant get enough japanese guys to come over here and crack the whip so the lackies make a poorer car lately.
Be good to your honda and youll never need another car
oh, and even for a larger car, the v6 accord is great on gas.

Q: Is there a faster way to scroll through Artists using the BMW interface for your iPod?
I just bought new BMW 328 (2009), I connected my ipod and ran into an issue, everything works great, but when i want to scroll through artists the wheel just doesnt scroll fast enough. I do not have the nav screen so its the standard radio dash. I have over 2000 artists so it takes me forever just to get through the A’s. Is there anything i can buy or do so i can scroll quicker or jump to a letter in the alphabet??

Thanks!

A: I don’t think so, but if you have an iPod touch it’s faster just to do it manually on the iPod

Q: yeah so i am thinking about getting the new 2009 Bmw 328xi … and i just had a few questions?
yeah so im thinking about getting the new 2009 328 xi.. and i just wanted to add navigation, black leather, 17 inch rims, and xenon lights.. i was just wondering how long would it take to be shipped? and if not.. do u think dealerships would carry that kind with limited things???

A: Most cars that are sitting on dealer lots will have popular option packages, typically option groups such as the premium or cold weather packages, or maybe a sport or technology package.

To find a relatively stripped down car, or one with very specific options is very unusual, and even more so now in light of BMW’s stated desire to sell higher profit (i.e. more options) cars in the US, in the face of the shrinking market. As others mentioned, dealers will look for cars at surrounding dealers, including in adjacent states, but if you’re very particular then you’ll likely not find what you’re looking for.

That means you will very likely have to order a car to get it the way you want it, and wait a couple of months to get it (the dealer can tell you the lead time). However, if you can bear to defer your gratification and order the car, you do get a couple of interesting options:

1. European delivery. Pick it up at BMW Welt in Munich, then drive it in Europe, have a nice vacation, and fly home. Your car is shipped to your dealer, arriving around 4-8 weeks later. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and there’s about a 5-10% savings over the list price.

2. If you can’t spare the time to have European vacation, pick up the car at the BMW Performance Center in Spartanburg, SC. You get very special treatment, and it’s all at no extra charge.

Have fun!

Q: tail light and insturment cluster stop working sometimes in my 97 bmw 328. I have checked the fuses and bulbs?
the bulb is new and the fuses are fine. The bulb works in the other tail light so its fine. no fuses are blown. sometimes it will work but sometimes not. what are some causes and solutions. thanks

A: Check the bulb sockets for corroded/pitted/burnt terminals. Check also the cable connector for burnt pins. Ditto with the socket where the cable connector inserts into. Make sure that the ground terminals or wires are normal. Do not forget the 3rd brakelight bulb and socket.
EDIT:
The answers to your previous question which I failed to notice
beforehand are all correct. So obviously my answer is just a repeat of what was already said.

Q: BMW 328 1997 3series problem with ECU?
1997 bmw 3series 328 ecu is broken any info on how to fix it or where to get new one cheap

A: http://car-part.com/
Try this website. Another asker found good results with it. New ones are never cheap. Also remember that programming is usually needed
along with the problem of mating the DME with the EWS (anti-theft module).
Since the DME is not repairable (except maybe for loose/bent pins or open/shorted wires) saying that your DME (ecu) is bad is a pretty big decision or conclusion to make. I hope whoever diagnosed it as bad did it properly for it costs big bucks to replace.

Q: 1997 BMW 328 ignition key stuck in on position, why?
I pulled up to stop in a car park and the ignition key wouldn’t turn to shut off the car. The key then pulled right out of the ignition with the key still in the on position, and the car kept running with no key (had to stall the car to shut it off). What are your thoughts? Do I need a whole new ignition cylinder or has something just come undone in the mechanism. Before this happened, the key used to spin in the ignition before I turned the steering wheel and the key ‘caught’ and turned the engine on. I’m thinking it has maybe been on its way out for a while and this was it breaking completely.
The key slides in and out of the barrel perfectly, as normal. The problem is the key wont turn, unless you really force it – when you do this the key spins round and clicks bak into position. But it isn’t actually altering the ignition position ie doesn’t turn off the ignition. The battery light etc is on, so the battery will drain. I took it to the garage I got the car from and they’re gonna fix it under warranty, but I’m curious as to whats happened. Its as if the steering lock is on because if the lock is on you need to turn the wheel slightly to get the key to turn. However, the steering lock isn’t on (as the wheels will turn), and turning the wheel does not allow the key to turn. I had to get the car bump started – not good.

A: oops…should have repaced the ignition switch a long time ago. you may have additional problems now.

Q: Questions on BMW 328i 328 coupe 07 2007, please help Thanks?
Looking to purchase first bemer, skeptical so please help me out for those knowledgeable. I was looking at an 03 porsche boxster, and i found a nice used one for 30 but i backed off bc i do not know the maintainance level and i heard there are alot of payments to keep that car up and i want a car thatll last me a long time and not be a headache as well. I heard certain cautions with just washing the soft top and havintg to drive it regularly or else batter will fail so i moved on… i came across the bmw and liked the new 07 coupe bc of the new warranty which covers all maintainace and i test drove and fell in love, i was wondring if i wait a while how much do yuo think the price will deppreciate for a used one…and how long wil these cars last, above 100k and after the warranty is over will i have alot of trouble, does anybody have bmw assist, how is that? please give me any insight or advice, thanks!

A: The price of the new coupes will not go down that much. They’re a hot car right now and I know people won’t have problems with the new coupes. I have owned a 86′ 325, 91′ 318, 93′ 540, and a 93′ 328. ALL over 150 thousand miles and ran excellent (the 86′ 325 has 225 thousand) I would wait a year and try to get one that’s been used. I know you want a 07 but the best time to buy a 06 is now, when the new models come out last years models have great pricing and great offers. I dont know why that is but it is what it is.

Q: BMW Oil change 328i 2007 model with 23k miles?
I am going for a oil change tomorrow for my BMW 328 i, 2007 model with 23k miles. What kind of Oil should I ask the dealer, or what else I can suggest him to do. I am very new to BMW’s, so just wanna make sure I tell them what is better for car, bcoz, sometimes they just don’t do it, unless we ask for it.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

A: Don’t bother recommending what oil to use to a dealer, for you would only make yourself look more stupid than you really are.
But mention whatever defects you think should be addressed by them, not imaginary or crazy ones.
On their side, the dealer inserts your key into a key reader which connects them to the BMW service network, which identifies any other concerns that should be done to your car aside from regular servicing.
Many people are so stupid as to think that dealer personnel does not want to do needed repairs to their cars. Dealers make money by repairing cars under warranty. No repairs, no money.
Additionally, you can mention that the wiper blades does not clean properly, the front and rear brakes are noisy, and the check engine light came on sometime ago but is not on right now.
Never ask for a software update. The dealer will do it if needed, and not because some internet expert said so in a forum somewhere.

Q: Bmw 328 or Infinity G37 or Nissan 350Z?
Hello, I know about all of the three cars above and I can’t pick one between them. I am in the market to least a new car next month and I need to chose between these three cars. Which one would you pick and why? All of them 2007 or 2008

A: Here is the run down on all three. Since u are to least these cars u won’t be able to do any upgrades on them since it violates your contract!
A) the 350Z has lots of aftermarket that u can add on it turbo, supercharger, body kit and all that stuff but as I mentioned u cant upgrade your car.
B) the bmw has one big problem since it doesn’t come will inter-cooler for the turbo at low speed running u will end up over heating the engine or really close to it! But side note is that since u are leasing if the car breaks down it is not really ur concern (something to keep in mind and that’s really with all three)
C) G37 is not turbo and I don’t know how significant and loud is the sound of BMW its something u might want to look into, let’s face it turbo sounds beautiful!

Now all of this mentioned I don’t know what your age is but u might consider BMW or G37 as your chose since if you are in late 20s or higher they are both more comfortable then 350Z and b/w the G37 and BMW for little more G37 comes with a lot more gismo.

BMW is good but the inside of G37 looks more new and BMW looks like the 3series nothing special the truth is BMW and G37 perform pretty close and if u race either one its gana come down to the driver.

So my point has been 350Z is a bit different then the other two inside looks a lot sporty and feels smaller compare to the other two. Now if u test drive any of them make sure the tires are same since riding on 245/35/19 is a lot different for example then a 245/75/17 (higher the middle number more cushion ride)

So my order of choice 1st G37, 2nd BMW, 3rd 350Z ( and if none of this did any help things to keep in mind which one has better look in your opinion, sound of engine, and the inside look, since the all three perform is I mentioned very close to each other u don’t need to worry so much about that)

anyways best of luck to you

Q: should i get the 2009 bmw 328xi with idrive or the 2009 bmw 335xi without idrive?
yeah so the idrive system is the naviagation unit, and bmw has updated its new one.. the 328 im looking at has navigation and other things and it cost around 45,000… but then the 335xi doesnt have navigation and cost about the same… and yet the 335 xi has 300 hp compared to the 328xi’s 230.. should i get the navigation cause its pretty cool?

A: If i were you i would get the 328 because it is fast enough. it has 230 hp which is more than enough to power a small car like a 3 series. it’s still incredibly fast. plus the navigation can come in handy when you need it. yeah i would get the 328 with nav. it’s a fast car with loads of tech…

Q: Audi 2.0 quattro vs. BMW 328 ix?
I’m looking to buy a new car- 2007 model. I keep hearing how the Audi quattro will outperform a BMW in the snow, which isn’t surprising considering the quattro’s a 4 wheel drive and the BMW is a rear wheel drive. But what about comparing the quattro to a 4 wheel drive BMW (the “ix” series)? Which one would you rather have and why?

A: bmw a little pricier but retains value a little better. as far as the 4 wheel drive, both systems will work fine- so it’s essentially a wash. go with whichever one you like the most- they’re both good cars.

Q: Help! My doors won’t unlock on my new BMW!!!?
Oh my gosh! Weird! I picked up the car last night (its a 328 if it makes a difference) and the damn thing won’t unlock for me! THe BMW keys are different: it doesn’t come with a ‘key’, its more like a remote. The lock button works, and the trunk button works. How come it won’t unlock? I have places to be soon… Help?!?!?

A: Contact your nearest BMW dealer and they will send you the BMW service car. That’s for one way, but for another way, is if you have the spare key try to unlock it manually. Or on the key itself the one that looks like a remote you’ll find at the back of it something that can slip to one side. Slip that side and the key will appear. I hope those tips I gave you are going to be useful. Let me know what happens ok? Take care and may God be with you. :-)
